ASAS provides free programs for middle schoolers from under-resourced schools in low-income communities — including dance, STEM, culinary arts, homework help, and fieldtrips. Their vision is for students to be safe and healthy, graduate high school, pursue higher learning, and find careers they love. Funding supports after-school dance programs in South King County. 

Arts Corps – Seattle, WA

Founded in 2000, Arts Corps is a non-profit arts education organization dedicated to developing creative habits of mind in young people. Their corps of teaching artists (including Jubilation Fellows Eduardo MendonçaDaniel PakRayann OnzukaRobert Eyerman) bring hands-on arts classes — music, dance, theatre, visual arts, poetry — to youth with little or no access, predominately children in low income communities of color. They received the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award. Funding supports general operations. 

Arts Council of Pendleton – Pendleton, OR

The Council offers free year-round art and music classes for teenagers under the banner of Art Rocks Teens. Funding supports their annual week-long Free Rock and Roll Camp, where 100 teens study with 20 working band members. At the end of the week they perform a free, raucous concert on Main Street. 

Attitudinal Healing Connection – Oakland, CA

Co-founded by Jubilation Fellow Kokomon Clottey, AHC provides access to the arts for schools that lack resources; healing and creative programs to at-risk communities; and leadership training and after-school programs to more than 80 Bay Area schools. Their ArtEsteem ArtMobile supports school programs, festivals, community place-making events, and mural installations. Funding supports African culture and drumming classes. 

Ballet Folklorico Ritmo Alegre – Medford, OR

Ritmo Alegre (“joyful rhythms”) teaches and performs traditional regional folkdances from Mexico. Their mission is to empower youth through dance, and to educate them as cultural ambassadors in their communities. Funding supports general operations. 

Bay Area Girls Rock Camp – Oakland, CA

BAGRC offers after-school and summer programs for girls ages 8-18. They are dedicated to promoting an environment that fosters self-confidence, creativity, and collaboration. BAGRC challenges gender stereotypes, encourages tolerance, and provides a comfortable space for people of all backgrounds to express themselves. Girls attend music lessons, form bands, write songs, and perform. Funding supports general operations. 

BRAVO Youth Orchestras – Portland, OR

BRAVO transforms the lives of under-served youth through music instruction, emphasizing collaboration, promoting self-confidence, and creating community. They provide in-school and after-school music to more than 350 children in grades K-5. Funding supports Collective Composition and Creative Play, a vibrant, high-energy program where students are taught to jam with each other, find grooves, and compose. 

The Bridge Music Project – Olympia, WA

The Bridge was founded in 2014 by Jubilation Fellow Bobby Williams to show at-risk youth (ages 14-21) how music and writing can be used as tools to deal with life’s challenges. Community songwriting workshops offer the chance to write, collaborate, record, and perform original music. Funding supports general operations. 

Centrum – Port Townsend, WA

Centrum produces residential workshops in dance, music, writing, visual and performing arts, as well as Native American arts and culture for students aged 4-94. Classes culminate in celebratory performances for the general public. Funding provides scholarships for students in grades 5-12 to attend the Young Artists Project, as well as artist faculty and manager salaries. Cocoon House – Everett, WA

Cocoon House works to break the cycle of youth homelessness through outreach, housing, and prevention. Their free music education, production, and performance program for ages 12-24 offers the joy and healing that comes from creative expression. Funding supports new equipment and expanded public performance opportunities. 

Coyote Central – Seattle, WA

In the past 30 years, Coyote has engaged over 17,000 young people ages 10-15 in hands-on creativity with professional artists, musicians, dancers, fashion designers, playwrights, furniture makers, and chefs. By designing and creating their own projects with the guidance of role models, kids just beginning to figure out who they are and what they want to do in the world discover their talents and potential. Funding supports performing arts programming. 

Freeman School Band – Rockford, WA

“One note, one rhythm, one phrase at a time,” is the band motto, where everyone is welcome regardless of skill or ability. Their goal is to move music from the stage to where the ears, feet, and hearts are – into the stands, on the field, down the halls, down the street, and beyond. Funding supports the purchase of big, loud, fun instruments, as well as lyres, mounts, and traveling cases. 

The Funhouse Commons – Orcas Island, WA

A youth-focused community center, The Funhouse provides out-of-school programming and expanded learning opportunities for island children and teens age birth to 18. Funding supports scholarships for the Music Together program, which connects young children and their care providers with weekly access to music, movement, and instrument play. 

Jack Straw Cultural Center – Seattle, WA

Founded in 1962 by a group of ethnomusicologists and radio producers, Jack Straw is committed to sharing music, dance, and stories from around the world. They provide hands-on activities — both in-school and out of school — for K-12 students, with a focus on those with differing abilities, as well as English language learners. Funding supports their K-3 music and dance education programs for both blind and sighted students, and a song and poetry project for second graders. 

Kúkátónón Children’s African Dance Troupe – Portland, OR

Kúkátónón means “We Are One” in the Kpelle language of Liberia, and is a tuition-free, after-school0 arts learning program that connects low-income youth to the cultural traditions of West Africa through music and dance. Funding supports their project, Looking Upward, Reaching Backward, Dancing Forward. 

Latino Network – Portland, OR

The Network was founded in 1996 by those concerned by the low achievement scores, youth violence, and high drop-out rates that undermined their community’s potential. They work with gang-involved and adjudicated youth and families, provide academic support and activities to high-school students, encourage parental involvement, and promote early literacy. Funding supports the Ballet Folklórico program for ages 6-18. 

My Voice Music – Portland, OR

MVM uses music and long-term mentoring to help youth find and share their voices. Funding supports The Artist Mentorship Program, which includes rock camps, weekly songwriting classes and hip-hop labs, workshops, advanced group study, individual lessons, and performances. They also provide dedicated sessions for unaccompanied migrant youth seeking asylum, and for youth in foster care. 

1 World Chorus – Lake Oswego, OR

Directed by Jubilation Fellow Aaron Nigel Smith, 1 World Chorus is committed to promoting peace, while empowering children and communities around the world through music. Since 2009, more than 3000 students from the USA, Kenya, and Jamaica have participated in collaborative drumming, chorus, recording, and multimedia projects. Funding supports the Songs & Rhythms of Peace Residency. 

Partners for Youth Empowerment – Langley, WA

PYE’s mission is to unleash the power, purpose, and potential of young people. By weaving all of the arts into the learning process, they help youth awaken their innate creativity. Right Brain Initiative / Regional Arts & Culture Council – Portland, OR

Right Brain provides a platform for arts-integrated learning for K-8 students, regardless of ethnicity or socioeconomic standing. By pairing classroom teachers with teaching artists and providing school-wide artist residencies, they deliver creative learning experiences that infuse the arts into core curriculum and engage students as active learners, improving academic outcomes, and developing creative and critical thinking. Funding supports expansion and whole-school, site-based professional development for classroom teachers. 

Rock ‘n’ Roll Camp for Girls – Portland, OR

Founded in 2001, their mission is to empower the voices of cis-women and girls, as well as transgender and gender-expansive folks, through the power of music creation and performance. SMP’s free after-school program is a combination of weekly music instruction and mentoring for under-served elementary school students. They provide one-on-one lessons and ensemble experience, as well as free instruments, method books, and bus rides. STG, a non-profit performing arts organization, hosts AileyCamp, a free six-week summer dance camp for under-served youth ages 11-14. In addition to dance classes, students participate in personal development courses such as conflict resolution, creative communication, and nutrition counseling. The camp fosters respect for self and others, and ignites the brilliance, creativity, and joy innate in everyone. Funding supports camp operations. 

Seattle Women’s Jazz Orchestra – Seattle, WA

SWOJO is a non-profit formed in 2000 to nurture the musical, educational, and artistic growth of individual musicians; to encourage women and girls to become involved in jazz performance/composition as a career or avocation; and to foster community interest in and appreciation of jazz as an art form. Spectrum Dance Theater – Seattle WA

Young Strings provides free music instruction for under-served youth. Since 2014, they have offered a free World Youth Orchestra program to immigrant and refugee youth. Participants learn instrumental technique, music theory, and ensemble performance. Their Teaching Artists are committed to social justice and inclusion, instructing in both Spanish and English. Funding supports expansion of the program.
